PersonalEffect moves Lorien Unique into Cross Media publishing

Lorien Unique has invested in the XMPie PersonalEffect personalisation software suite to extend their considerable data management and variable data printing expertise into cross-media direct marketing and web-to-print publishing. The package, supplied by XMPie’s UK and Ireland Partner, Positive Focus, comprises the full web-to-print edition of PersonalEffect together with a site license for the desktop tools including add-on applications uImage and uChart.

Lorien Unique, based at Colnbrook, near Heathrow Airport, is a specialist provider of one-to-one marketing and publishing solutions, and one of the largest HP Indigo operations in Europe. They recently scooped the prize for best digital printing at the 2006 Printing World Awards - a reflection of their market leading position for high quality, personalised digital printing. This XMPie installation was the first in the UK to use a multi-processor version of Adobe InDesign Server as its page composition engine.

“XMPie PersonalEffect enables us to service our clients’ more demanding needs with personalised, relevant and graphically rich content, and exploit the increasing convergence of on-line and printed communications. Now we can track responses, capture new data and measure the results” said Tony Hodgson, Technical Director of Lorien Unique. “It has given us an advanced technology platform on which we can develop new solutions, like our secure, public Web Services interface to the XMPie based system, for our e-publishing and cross-media marketing clients”.

‘PersonalEffect adds an extra dimension to Lorien Unique’s data and personalised production resources, which are well established and respected throughout the industry,
’ said Ivor Dixon, Managing Director of Positive Focus, ‘they are already using it extensively in their day to day work, but the interesting thing is how they are working at the edge of the envelope to produce an even tighter link to their clients. The Web Services interface, allowing clients to build customer-facing applications with 24/7 remote access to the production server, will shorten the development and implementation time for individual projects and provide considerably more flexibility. With the new architecture and cross-media features available in version 3 of PersonalEffect, which is just released, we expect to see some interesting campaigns in the near future.’

‘When we introduced PersonalEffect and the rest of the XMPie suite, Lorien Unique had hardly any experience of InDesign. In a few months they have graduated to producing sophisticated campaigns that are engaging the end recipient and delivering good response rates. They are fully utilising the tool set we have made available to them, and XMPie’s easy to use technology is again proving its worth.’
