PowerSWITCH 06 ships today

Gradual Software is planning to ship PowerSWITCH, the third member of the SWITCH workflow automation family, early in September.

PowerSWITCH is the top-of-the-line product from the SWITCH product family. It has been in development since the release of LightSWITCH and FullSWITCH earlier this year and adds important advanced features to the product line. Positive Focus will be showing the new product on Stand 528 at Digital Print World.

1) Metadata Support

In more and more workflows it is important to be able to work with various forms of metadata. PowerSWITCH has additional tools to handle generic XML, Adobe XMP and JDF metadata in flows. This allows PowerSWITCH to receive incoming metadata, customize job processing based on it and export metadata in suitable formats for use in databases and hand-off to MIS, DAM and workflows systems.

2) Scripting Support

In PowerSWITCH you can write scripts (in JavaScript, Visual Basic script and AppleScript) that customize the behavior of built-in tools. You can also write completely custom tools that seamlessly work together with the visual flow editor and your existing flows. This allows you to write scripts where needed, without making your flows hard to use or maintain.

3) Workgroup Support

SWITCHclient, the workgroup client that compliments PowerSWITCH allows you to submit jobs from your local workstation. Flows can be designed so that they contain 'checkpoints'; manual intervention spots where - again with SWITCHclient - you can determine how the job is going to be routed. It's easy to see all jobs that you have in the loop and even to see processing
logs from PowerSWITCH. All on your own computer.

PowerSWITCH builds on these features and is a workgroup tool, using a client application (SWITCHclient) that allows anyone in the workgroup to submit jobs from their own workstation, track progress, intervene when jobs are being held for inspection and to access activity logs. The administrator can set up flows, determine access rights and keep an eye on all jobs. PowerSWITCH ships initially with 5 SWITCHclient licenses and additional licenses can be purchased. PowerSWITCH is compatible with Mac OSX 10.4 and higher on both PowerPC and Intel platforms and with Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2003 Server and Windows XPPro.
