Create
Personalised Images for Eye-Popping Variable Data Publishing
Evoke
Response with Image Personalisation in Print and Web
uImage™ from XMPie produces and integrates rich, breathtaking,
Image Personalisation effects with Variable Data Publishing. Adobe
Photoshop® CS2 users can produce powerful, visually rich, personalised
images and graphics, and seamlessly merge them into XMPie variable
publishing, in print and online.
Imagine…
A direct mail campaign using personalised images in order to show
each recipient's name burned into wood, or etched into glass…
A car brochure, with a car image that has a reflection off the car's
window that shows a hometown landmark image personalised to each
customer's address…
A Web application where shoppers can preview their own personal
picture wrapped around a coffee mug, or preview their corporate
logo placed on a notepad, before placing a print order online.
Using
Photoshop's Inner Bevel Layer style allows for special effects,
like raised text.
With
uImage from XMPie, imagination is your only true limit to personalisation!
Dynamic
Text
Simply add a tag for variable data text in your Photoshop text layer,
and uImage automatically fills in the variable text from your recipient
data source. All the effects that can be applied to non-rasterised
text with Photoshop CS2 (for example: character styles, layer styles,
and transformations such as warping) are maintained completely true
to form. uImage also lets you defi ne copyfitting settings so that
text always fits into the desired space. For more impact, you can
even have multiple text layers containing multiple variable text
elements.
Image reflection created using Photoshop CS2's
new Image Warp feature and a combination of Multiply and Soft
Light blending modes.
Dynamic
Images
uImage lets you leverage the Smart Object feature of Photoshop
CS2 in creating personalised images, while maintaining all the
effects that can be applied to non-rasterised Smart Object layers.
For instance transformations and clipping masks, including Photoshop
CS2's new Image Warping capabilities which enable you
to wrap images around 3D surfaces leading to highly realistic
results. And with a variety of selections for automatic image
fitting to frame, you have true creative image control.
Additional
Effects
You control the sequence of actions in creating the final image
file. uImage makes use of Photoshop's capabi lities to run user-defined
scri pts or actions so you can automate a set of design tasks via
JavaScript or Photoshop's Actions Palette.
For example, after dynamic text is placed, the text layer can be
rasterised so that a fi lter, such as a radial blur or mosaic texture,
can be applied to the entire image. For Cross Media applications,
you can have Photoshop create two versions of each file -
one high resolution for print and one low resolution for the Web.
Automated
Production
uImage is a complementary product to XMPie's line of Variable Data
Publishing software. uImage automatically merges variable data (text
or graphics) with your Photoshop image personalisation templates
in order to compose personalised images that are then automatically
integrated back into XMPie VDP production. Photoshop automation
is triggered from a user-defined QLingo™ function (QLingo
is an XMPie language that augments SQL). This allows full control
of content in personalisation. You can even automatically control
which Photoshop template to use for each recipient, allowing you
to not merely personalise image content per recipient, but to also
use completely different templates for specified recipients.
It's Easy
uImage seamlessly integrates with XMPie's VDP software tools and
modular workflow. Simply create a template within Photoshop. Then,
from within XMPie uPlan™ generate a set of images, one per
recipient, to be used with uCreate™ or uDirect™, in
exactly the same manner as all other images. Or, for server-based
production, use uProduce™ to generate personalised images
directly into the print stream in realtime, at the same time uProduce
processes the VI output file for the complete VDP project into which
these images are incorporated.

Use
Adobe Photoshop CS2 for designing personalised images
The flexibility, power and familiarity of this industry-leading
image creation software, in conjunction with uImage, results in
the widest range of possible effects for personalised images without
the need for the designer to learn a single-purpose design tool.
Leverage Photoshop's text editing (kerning, leading, alignment,
etc.), transformation (scaling, rotating, skewing, warping, etc.),
layer styles (blending modes, shadows, glows, bevel, emboss, etc.)
and adjustment layers, clipping masks, etc. Run custom scripts before
or after the placement of the personalised element(s). Copyfitting
and image fitting modes are also supported.
Automate the creation of personalised images
A full set of personalised images can be generated from the desktop
within uPlan or during the processing of the VI Output File on uProduce.
Integrate
images into print or web documents for variable data campaigns
The images are saved in an industry-standard file type and can be
placed into a dynamic document using uDirect Standard, uDirect Professional
and uCreate plug-ins to Adobe InDesign, and the uCreate interactive
plug-in to Adobe GoLive!® and Macromedia Dreamweaver® for
use in print, Cross Media or Web-to-Print applications.
